October 25 - November 4 2005

Greetings friends! I am once again here with my bi-weekly entry to keep the world informed of the goings-ons of my exng life!

The Halloween party was great - though we ended up with five Harry Potters, and several Dumbledore's but I guess that was all right... There were some creative costumes, though. Harold hedgehog from next door went as a security guard for the ministry, and Spotty went as Sanguini the vampire. Annie made an excellent McGonagal, and Betsy did a great Rita Skeeter.. well, I don't want to list everyone, but anyway, the costumes were good - even Bob from next door managed to wear a cape - though no one ,him included, knew what he was supposed to be!

The decorations came out spiffy, too. I, of course, helped in the end, as the decorations committee was just swamped! We made silver stars and hung them from the ceiling (Perry and his suction cups are sooo handy!) to represent the star filled sky in the great hall, and we made a sorting hat and I made a sorting test and we sorted everyone into houses and then broke up into teams and had a scavenger hunt and then a trivia game, and it was great! Doggie, Andy, Natasha and some volunteers made the food - Pumpkin pasties, treacle tarts (by the way- treacle is a kind of molasses - not very good!), cauldron cakes, chocolate frogs, and more. I was quite surprised at how good everything was- even the pumpkin juice was tasty! I admit that I did not have a lot of hope for it when Doggie first started messing with it, but using the easy pumpkin pie filling with the spice already in it as opposed to the canned pumpkin with no spices made a HUGE difference!

On Halloween we went trick or treating to the Iowa bears and then they came and trick or treated here (Not a lot of bear activity around here) then we all went to teddy town and trick or treated there for awhile. Booy even went to Mrs. Friendly's house and he was polite and nice so that she did not recognize him at all. Personally I think that since he wears the same costume year after year she would know it was him - he is always Captain teddy. He even refused to dress up as anything different for the Halloween party, insisting that Harry Potter secretly read captain teddy comic books so it was an acceptable costume.

There will be a boat race tomorrow - the last one before winter. There will be Taylor, Boo-boo and Orange Ducky racing from next door, and from our house we have Andrew, Pigelty Wigelty, and tearful teddy. Though I doubt that the pond will freeze this winter, one never knows and so they are wrapping the boating season up. I am rooting for.. well... I guess for Andrew or tearful teddy. I'm sorry, he might be from our house, but I just can't condone anything that will make him carry on more than the bicycle race did!

They are starting tryouts for the school Christmas play this week - i am, of course, going to try out for it. We will find out Monday what the play is, though I am sure that i am up to the task of any lead roll that is available in the theatre community. I am quite hopeful that there will be a Santa - I have played Santa before, you know.

Acorn has started taking Violin lessons, and I think I am safe in saying that we would all like to take the violin and hide it in a locked closet! She is really quite horrible at it! But, as she is one of the better of the group of girls in this house, I have tried not to say anything too rude about it, just suggest that perhaps she would get better acoustic sound outside. I hope she gives this up soon!

And now, for the topper to the last few weeks - Maria won an award! That's right, she won an award at school for her Halloween picture! I could not believe that she won an award - it was the most unoriginal picture I have ever seen - just a giant jack-o-lantern and a witch and a ghost and some clouds. I could have done sooooo much better - though my class did not enter the contest! Mrs. Friendly was quite rude on this point, telling me that Maria's prize had nothing to do with me and that I needed to "be still"! hrmphphphp!! it is obvious that there is corruption going on in that contest and that she bribed the judges - I could have done a better, more creative picture with my eyes closed!!!

Well, that about wraps it up around here, I think, for now. I shall be back next time!
O

The six Harry Potters: Clarence John, Bubbles, Nubbin, Panda, Ernie and Woolsey.
